David Ashkenazy

DAVID ASHKENAZY began his musical journey by studying piano and guitar at the age of nine and was later introduced to the drums. Growing up in Southern California he immersed himself in a wide variety of musical styles including Rock, Jazz, Klezmer, Reggae, Blues and Funk. David's formal education began at California State University, Long Beach where he studied classical and world percussion and later had the honor of studying with Jeff Hamilton, Joe Labarbera. Peter Erskine, Kenny Washington, Steve Davis and Samir Chatterjee.

He was a full time freelance drummer in Los Angeles for 10 years and is now living in New York City and actively performing in a wide variety of musical environments.

David has played with many talented and inspiring musicians such as Joel Frahm, Jon Gordon, Brad Shepik, Steve Cardinas, Gilad Hekselman, Gary Versace, Alan Ferber, Matt Clohesy, Mike Moreno, Robin Verheyen, Ed Schuller, Clay Jenkins, Adrian Cunningham, Scott Ritchie, Dan Pratt, Rob Scheps, Jared Gold, Nate Radely, Matt Otto, Ricky Woodard, Bob Sheppard, Larry Fuller, Gilbert Castellanos, Christoph Luty, Ron Stout, John Campbell, Tony Dumas, Carl Saunders, Scott Whitfield, Steve Cotter, Roger Shew & Joe Bagg.

He Currently leads a quartet with Joel Frahm (tenor), Gilad Hekselman (guitar), and gary Versace (organ), As well as a trio called the Ashkenazy Collective with Adrian Cunningham (woodwinds) and Scott Ritchie (bass).
